Plus: Somerset Main Rivers and Ordinary Watercourses
On this page is a map showing Somerset’s river catchments and sub-catchments. If you are thinking of applying for a Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA) Community Flood Action Fund grant, this map will help you to check precisely which catchment and sub-catchment your proposed project is in.
The map will also let you check which Somerset watercourses are classified as Main Rivers and which as Ordinary Watercourses. This will help you to establish what permissions you might need to get for doing works.
How to use the map
Put an address into the box in the top right hand corner and single-click or touch on the symbol that comes up in the map. Doing this will conjure up simple catchment and sub-catchment information.
If you put a postcode into the box, you will get a choice of several addresses. Pick the one you are most interested in, and the process will work as outlined above.
Alternatively, simply zoom in and click or touch on the place you are interested in. The same catchment and sub-catchment facts will appear.
Also as you zoom in you will notice that Main Rivers (dark blue lines) and Ordinary Watercourses (turquoise lines) start to appear. They are only set to appear beyond a certain scale on the map (1:30,000) to preserve its overall legibility.
If you would like to choose what you see on the map, go to the Legend (that is the symbol with two straight lines and a wavy line) below the Address or postcode box and click or touch on that. You will see a menu of possibilities. Tick the boxes by things you want to see, untick the boxes you do not.
