Upcoming public events involving Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA)

Flood Group network meetings

Three flood group network meetings are being held this Spring for the catchments of the rivers Tone, Axe and Brue, and Parrett. These meetings are for flood wardens, councillors, town and parish clerks and anybody else who is interested in working together with others to reduce the risks and impacts of flooding.

Start-up meetings were held back in the autumn. These meetings are follow-ups, based on what participants had to say at – and about – the initial meetings. There was particular enthusiasm for the aims of exerting influence and bringing about change.

The River Tone catchment meeting was held on Tuesday 24 March at the headquarters of Somerset Wildlife Trust in Taunton.

The Parrett catchment meeting was held on Tuesday 14 April in the Parrett Room in Langport Town Hall.

The Axe-Brue catchment meeting will be held on Monday 27 April, 6-8pm, at Bagley Baptist Church, Coldnose, Bagley, Wedmore, BS28 4TG

All venues have free parking nearby.

Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Bathpool area community flood recovery drop-in

An event on Thursday 30 April, between 3 and 6.30pm, at the Brittons Ash Community Hall, TA2 8FT. Following Storm Chandra at the end of January, at least 14 homes and three businesses suffered flooding in the Bathpool area.

This event is for local people to share their experiences so that what happened can be better understood. It’s also a chance to find out more about possible sources of support and information.

Among the organisations attending will be Somerset Council, the Environment Agency and Somerset Rivers Authority.

West Monkton Parish Council will be offering tea, coffee and biscuits.
