SRA year in progress report 2025-26: Local Flood risk management measures
A partnership project designed to reduce local flood risks across Somerset by investigating problems, assessing possible remedies and taking action; it’s led by Wessex Water and Somerset Council as partners in the SRA, and funded by the SRA and Wessex Water. Somerset Council contributes staff time.
In 2025-26, 15 places came under consideration in Bridgwater, Chard, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Chedzoy, Creech St Michael, Drayton, Fiddington, Ilminster, Milverton, Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton, Wiveliscombe, Wookey Hole and Yeovil.
Activities included Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group SouthWest surveys, which recommended land management and Natural Flood Management interventions to reduce runoff from fields and improve the infiltration of water into the ground.
In Bathpool on the edge of Taunton, an area that was under consideration, the SRA Board agreed in March and June 2026 to contribute to the cost of an Environment Agency scheme for pumping improvements.
