Book for Somerset Community Resilience Day 2023 – and tip a winner
The fifth annual Somerset Community Resilience Day is being held at Wincanton Racecourse on Thursday 5 October, 10am to 4pm.
Entrance is FREE, lunch is also FREE, and there is a choice of stimulating talks, workshops, demonstrations and activities.
Attendees also get some good opportunities to chat with other guests about interesting experiences and ideas from towns and villages across Somerset.
The opening speaker will be the new Somerton & Frome MP Sarah Dyke, who is also a Somerset Council representative on the Board of Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA).
Subjects and sessions currently lined up this year include:
- emergency planning
- flooding
- topical case studies from communities
- localised flood warning systems funded by the SRA
- the rights and responsibilities that come with owning a watercourse
- cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillator training
- throwing life-saying gear with Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, to help people who have fallen into dangerous waters (a practice session from 2022 is pictured at the top of this page)

Somerset’s Community Resilience Award
On the day there will also be a presentation ceremony for Somerset’s Community Resilience Award.
This Award was launched at last year’s Somerset Community Resilience Day.
Its purpose is to honour individuals or groups in Somerset who have put some real time and effort into making their communities better and stronger.
