Who are your Somerset community champions?

A new award has been launched to honour people in Somerset who have made their communities more resilient. If you live in Somerset, and you know of groups or individuals who have made a difference where you live, nominate them by 30 September 2022. The award ceremony will be held on 13 October at the 2022 Somerset Community Resilience Day in West Monkton.

Help your Somerset community get ready for winter

People across Somerset are being offered free interactive online training between Tuesday 20 October and Thursday 22 October to help communities prepare for what could be a challenging winter. Subjects covered include recovering from crises, dealing with flooding and snow, and co-ordinating community volunteers. New short local films will also be shown.

Volunteers bag SRA grant for sandbag machine

A grant from Somerset Rivers Authority has helped to buy an automatic sandbagging machine for the Somerset branch of the Rapid Relief Team. Rapid Relief Team members previously used shovels for the back-breaking job of filling thousands of sandbags to protect people and properties.
