Deadline 23 May: New job with FWAG SW and Somerset Rivers Authority

An adviser is being sought to help Somerset groups and communities turn ideas into action.

Local people keen to reduce flood risks often lack technical expertise, experience and confidence.

As part of its Enhanced Programme of works for 2022-23, Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA) is therefore funding a new job to help enthusiastic local people make things happen.

The job’s full official title is Somerset Sub-Catchment Communities Natural Flood Management (NFM) Adviser

The adviser will be employed through the Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group SouthWest (FWAG SW), and will be able to call upon the years of expertise that FWAG SW’s team has accrued through Somerset’s award-winning Hills to Levels project and many other land management and NFM activities.

The adviser will also work closely with the SRA, particularly its community engagement officers and technical adviser, and with SRA partners and associated bodies such as Wessex Water.

The adviser’s main role will to help highly-motivated groups and communities establish which flood risk reduction measures are best for them, where they should be located, and how they should be designed and delivered. Existing SRA grant programmes and a range of funds from other bodies will be used to help deliver schemes.

The salary being offered for a two-year contract is £30,000 to £34,000 a year, depending on experience.

The deadline for applications to FWAG SW is 6pm on Monday 23 May.

FWAG SW’s website has more information about the job of Somerset Sub-Catchment Communities NFM Adviser, and an application form.
