Fast-flowing rivers can quickly cause problems for landowners.
In the case featured in this video, the River Isle in Somerset was eating into a farmer’s field.
As part of the award-winning Hills to Levels project, FWAG SW installed rock rolls to firm up the riverbank, and stop its erosion.
A welcome knock-on effect is that soil from the riverbank is no longer carried away, so there is less chance of deposits building up in culverts, and less of a requirement to dredge rivers downstream.
This video is the fifth in a series about natural flood management techniques being used to reduce flood risks and improve watercourses across Somerset. It features Joanna Uglow of FWAG SW. It was filmed and edited by Watershed PR.
